Hello everyone! I decided a while back that I would not continue my blog until I felt inspired enough to contribute regularly. Now, after a 2 year hiatus, I believe that I'm ready! With over a hundred pen sketches covering my walls and parquet flooring, I woke up this morning only to realize, that I had no where left to post them but here...and it's a good thing too, since I've run out of tacks and tape.
The reason for this wave of artwork? Travel. For the last few years, I have taken every opportunity to see the world. I travel for all sorts of reasons and in all different ways; but more than anything else, I do it to feed my curiosity, to educate myself, to experience the world around me. People say the world is small- I disagree. People say the world is a scary place- It's not. The world is a beautiful place, and so are the people within it. Every country, every culture, every tradition is an inspiration and a wonder. I always return wide-eyed and full of inspiration...so overwhelmed that I can't decide which line to draw first!
When I'm not exploring the countries of the world, I'm exploring the countries of Toronto...literally. Italy, Greece, France, China, Korea, India, Tibet, Ethiopia, Poland, Ukraine, Brazil, Portugal...these are just a few of the cultural districts in TO. It was only after I began to travel that I truly appreciated Toronto for what it is and hopefully, always will be; A Utopia. In all my travels, I have yet to visit a city as multicultural as ours. Every culture can be discovered here- in its truest and most authentic form. People wear their traditional clothing, speak their native tongue and continue to follow their respective traditions and it's a fascinating thing to see. And as this city grows and grows, I find that the cultural rhythm and kindness remains...I find that I continue to be inspired by Toronto everyday.
This blog (if all goes well) will feature artwork and photography inspired by my travel experiences... the people I've met, the lessons I've learned and the stories I've accumulated. My ultimate goal is to encourage people to learn more about the world; to understand what unifies us, to celebrate what differentiates us and above all, to appreciate every amazing culture within it!
...of course, it wouldn't be a Deanna Marsigliese blog without some sarcastic pieces and fashion illustration, so I'll sneak some of those too!
To all those who've been emailing and messaging me over the last few years wondering what the heck was going on, I just want to thank you for your patience and for keeping me & my art in mind!
I'll be posting soon...I PROMISE!
...but for now, a vendor from Laos.
See you soon!
